Stone-Age-Inspired Playing Cards

Fall 2020

BRIEF

After learning about art eras and design movements throughout human history, we were asked to create a set of playing cards, a snowboard, or a beverage wrap inspired by one of the eras we studied.

IDEA

I decided to create Stone-Age-inspired playing cards. This era occurred long before European kings, queens, or jesters, not to mention the Arabic numeral system. So, I imagined playing cards that replaced the numbers with dots, the traditional suits with bird tracks (found in ancient caves), and the royal figures with stick figures bent into shapes that resemble Roman letters.
